Freeway driving

The drive from Lesotho north to Johannesburg, South Africa, crosses rich farmland carpeted by green fields of corn and bright yellow sunflowers. Maize meal (similar to grits) and sunflower oil are basic food items.

With vehicles driving on the left hand side of the road, large trucks move to the shoulder as a courtesy when being passed on the right.

Located at frequent intervals are SOS roadside telephones for emergencies.

Potato chips (called "crisps") are a very popular item as a snack food of choice among purchasers. If one orders "chips" they will get deep fat fried potato wedges or french fries.
